Someday....
But New Zealand came to me via the US postal service shortly before I left home.
So a friend in New Zealand (hello, Allyn!) told her friend about this crazy knitting friend Allyn has back in the States. This friend told her friend - who happens to have her own farm and her own sheep and spins her own yarn (squee!). She is living the life I would like to live.
Of course, my dream life is the sanitized Hollywood version where the landscape is always bucolic, the sheep tend themselves (including shearing), and one can spin and ply 3000 yards of yarn in a few hours.
And, of course, there are at least 4 farmhands - one who looks like Paul Newman (circa Cat On A Hot Tin Roof), one like Harrison Ford (circa 1992), one like Colin Firth (circa anytime, baby), and one like Ciaran Hinds (circa Persuasion).
Hey, a girl can dream...
Anyway, back to yarn.
So Ms Raising My Own Sheep In New Zealand gives Allyn yarn to send to her crazy knitter friend in the US. How incredible is that?
Look at this stuff!
Allyn also slid a few extra goodies into the box. The book has gorgeous photos of New Zealand. As if the yarn wasn't a good enough reason to want to visit New Zealand.
Allyn, I left the card at home, so I don't have the names of those responsible for the yarn. Give a shout out in the comments.
I'll leave you with the guy's socks that I kinneared in the business lounge at the airport. (Click to see the stripes.)

ummm...ok, panties UNtwisted (the disclaimer came well, just a BIT TO LATE...)
When you get that dream station in NZ, let me know -- I'll visit now that my kids dont need a mummy so much anymore!
...dont sell yourself short, girly! You are already livin' the life! HA!
keep the news coming!!!
miss ya my friend!
Thank goodness they made it. Another package I sent the same day took forever too.
Heather is the name of the woman who made the yarn from her own sheep and Sarah is the good friend of us both who brokered the deal :)
I'll share your blog with them both so they can comment further if they wish.
Hope all is well!
Hi - it's Sarah who "brokered" the deal - and fellow avid knitter in New Zealand (on my 15th pair of bedsocks for the winter season as I type!!). Looking forward to seeing what you do with the yarn Heather spun from her sheep.... who live a very bucolic life grazing among avocado trees in a very beautiful part of our country called Tauranga. Hope photos of any finished products are posted on here for us to admire! Thank you too for all your links - I have spent many hours browsing already - and will spend many more I am sure. Ka kite ano Sarah :)
