Saturday In The Park

This weekend was not all just unpacking and organizing the new Stash Haus.

On Saturday I got up at insane o'clock and headed south to Crystal Lake, IL to meet up with Sue B. Our destination - Yarn Con. We took the Metra into town and I have to say the train is a sweet deal. Park all day for $1.25 and ride the train roundtrip for 5 bucks.

From the Clybourn stop we headed to the fieldhouse at Pulaski Park.

See that truck in the picture? It looks like an armoured truck - and it is - in a way.

Here, take a closer look.

I don't know if this truck was outside of the Fieldhouse due to some prudent planning on the part of the organizers but, if so, they certainly know their audience. It's a portable ATM truck. Within feet of people selling beautiful yarn, roving, knitting and spinning supplies, etc. Oh, you crafty, crafty, enablers.

We paid our admission, entered the raffle, went into the first hall and look whose booth was right by the door. I hope you all have pre-ordered his book. I can tell you that you won't be disappointed.

There were more knitting glitterati there than you could shake a knitting needle at.

Here's Ann from Mason Dixon Knitting, promoting their new book.

As usual when in the presence of knitting royalty, my mind raced ("OMG I love your blog you guys are so funny that video of Nashville Bandstand and the Rowanesque photoshoot I nearly peed myself I was laughing so hard can I tell you how much I enjoy your books") while my tongue was paralyzed. So much for all those years of formal education.

Loop had sold out of their book, so I couldn't buy it there as I had planned, but I had brought along their first book. Sadly, Kay was unable to be there but she had pre-signed book plates - how organized is that? Also seen in the hall were Bonne Marie from ChicKnits and Beth from Lorna's Laces. I didn't get pictures. I didn't have my wits about me - I even failed to kinnear them. Darn yarn fums.

The halls were busy for the 3 hours we were there. We were able to sit, knit, and chat with local knitters while having lunch.

It was a wonderful day. We dragged ourselves back to the station and knit and chatted on the train home surrounded by our purchases. Ha! Did you think I went away empty-handed? More on that later.

Have you seen the luxury ball winders? This is like a Jaguar compared to my little plastic Edsel of a winder.

Some day, my pretty, some day.

Oh, to have been there with the two of you. Martha's off having her chakra tuned or something or I'd have called her, put the dog in the kennel and the two of us would have met you there.

I'm so glad you two enjoyed yourselves. OK, spill--who spent more?

Looks like a good day!

My 'Edsel' is making crunching noises now so I think I've worn its teeth out. I went to Maryland Sheep and Wool this year. We saw a woman carrying a GOLDING ball winder and accosted her demanding a try - it was unbelievably smooth and beautifully made. At $500 we decided that as we can't afford the Ferrari a Jaguar seemed like a bargain!

Girl, you have run amok! I cannot believe you are further gone than I with the yarn thing! You officially hit more shows and shops than I! I love reading about your exploits...keep it coming! And hey, lets knit it up one of these days once you get settled in --someplace 1/2 way between...a little field trip (like you never get out...)

Cheers my friend!

What a fantastic post! I'm one of the organizers, and we're both thrilled that you came, and also that you had such a good time. Oh, and yes, that ATM truck was absolutely on purpose...heh. We know knitters and stash-oholics.
